Visualization
Visualization is a strategy that good readers use to help them "play out" the movie in their head in order to improve comprehension of the story. This strategy also helps the reader "fall in love" with the story making it difficult to put the book down.
If you are having trouble "getting into" the book you can try practicing visualization techniques. The pictures that you are seeing below are images that one student pictured in her head as she read the book. They are also a good example of a student who is willing to go above and beyond the work ethic of a typical student. This young lady did this project on her own without the teacher looking over her shoulder. This was not an assignment, but something she chose to complete on her own. She shared her work with me and future students to enjoy.
About the Artist: Miss Sydney Whitehead was the 5th grade student who drew the pictures below. She and her family were new to Avon Lake during the 2013-2014 school year. She will be a 6th grader in our building during the 2014-2015 school year. I look forward to seeing her fabulous work displayed throughout the wonderful halls of Troy.
