Hello Students and Parents,
This post is to inform you of the upcoming PARCC assessments. ELA is scheduled to begin the PARCC PBA or performance based assessments next Wednesday, February 18th. We are scheduled for testing again on Friday, Feb. 20th as well as the 23rd. Below is the schedule that Mr. Peltz shared on his blog. Students, please visit the website to look at the sample assessments. I encourage your parents to look at the practice tests as well. Follow the link below. http://epat-parcc.testnav.com/client/index.html#tests Thank you for stopping by and reading this post. At the beginning of the year I had started this blog site as I had just learned something new. I had not kept up on it as I had planned to do. Just like with any new skill we learn or information we gain if we don't put it into practice we can lose it. Also, I have read that it takes at least 21 times of doing something before it becomes a habit. So, I'm back and ready to make a new start. I have always been the teacher who envied the other teachers in the building and around the world who successful use blogs in their classrooms. I realize this can be a very valuable tool to keep everyone, parents, students, and teachers connected and informed about the happenings in our classroom.
I realized in order for me to become more comfortable with using technology I first had to become "uncomfortable" with it. By that I mean, I have to work through my struggles and face my fears head on. To help me get started with my new start in technology I enrolled in a course through Ashland University. I have already learned several new things about social bookmarking, and Twitter just to name a few. Now, I realize some of these tools I'll be sharing will not be new to some of you so I just ask for your help and support as I work through this process. My goal is to share a couple of things we are doing in class each day and to post a question that each of you can respond to in a way to share our ideas. This blog is part of my grade for my Ashland class so as you can see I need you all to respond to my post in order to help me be successful. What's in it for you? Well, your post will be part of your grade also. Please see my next post for more details. Let's collaborate to make this project a success for all of us. I'm excited about doing something new and I hope you are as well. Who said, learning shouldn't be fun? Hello Everyone, Welcome to another fantastic year at Troy Intermediate School in Avon Lake, Ohio. I hope you all have had an enjoyable summer. I know I have had a very busy summer. I began the summer by enrolling in a continuing education class on Leadership. I also read several educational books that would help me improve my instruction. I learned several new strategies to engage students in their learning. I also worked on revising my Interactive Student Notebooks. (You will hear more about these notebooks in a later post.) A couple of things I love about teaching is that I am always surrounded by children and books and always learning from both. I love my job and I am very excited to get back into the classroom. After meeting the students I am more excited than ever! I truly anticipate a wonderful year. Besides teaching and learning, I really enjoy my family time. And this summer brought about several changes in our family. On July 8th my daughter-in-law Amanda, gave birth to my first grandchild. Her name is Allison Birdie Abernathy. She was an extra special gift for my husband as she was born on his birthday. You will hear more about Allison in later post, I'm sure. My summer however, was bittersweet. Another change for our family was learning of my son's deployment just days before it was to occur. My son Alexander Scott Jones serves in the U.S. Army and he deployed to Kuwait for a year the day before school started. I am very proud of his service to our country, but he is my baby and it was so hard to see him go. Trust me, I will be putting in plenty of extra hours at school to keep me busy this year. To finish off my summer, I spent lots of time trying to prepare my classroom for the school year. Can't wait to meet you all at Information Night. Here is a sneak peek into our classroom. |
